Getting even with your complexion ...
Cosmelan is the answer!

If you feel your complexion is being punished by irregular patches of dark skin that never seem to go away, you are not alone. These dark spots of hyper-pigmented areas are one of the greatest aesthetic concerns facing people today.

Pigmentation is color in your skin produced by melanin, a natural pigment that also determines eye and hair color. However, if too much melanin is produced in one area, the result is a darkened patch on your skin.

Hyper-pigmentation that is symmetrical and localized to the face is called melasma. Age and liver spots, contrarily, have an asymmetrical distribution on the face and can also be seen on the chest, forearms, and backs of hands.

Although melasma can affect anyone, women with darker skin tones (especially Hispanic, Asian, Indian, and Middle-Eastern) are at greatest risk. Melasma often appears at times of hormonal changes such as menopause, endocrine illnesses, and the use of contraceptives. It is more common in women of childbearing age and when it is associated with pregnancy it is called chloasma (“pregnancy mask”).

Cosmelan Depigmentation treatment’s primary action is the elimination of melasma and chloasma. Cosmelan involves a versatile, dynamic process which is easily adapted to the needs of each individual patient. Cosmelan guarantees the improvement of undesirable skin blemishes with a very high safety margin, and is considered a “power-level” skin rejuvenation treatment for stubborn and dense pigmentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Cosmelan? Cosmelan® is a Depigmentation cream applied as a mask. The treatment is based on the inhibition of tyrosinase, a basic enzyme in the melanin formation process. Several of the substances present in the Cosmelan® formula act by blocking this enzyme, or even by inverting the metabolic process of the transformation chain. Its principal action is the elimination of melanin patches on the face ( melasma and chloasma ). The melanin activity is regulated, causing the cells to slow down production and function in a more uniform way.

2. What are the advantages of Cosmelan® ?
  • Very effective in all degrees of pigmentation
  • Rapid and easy depigmenting action
  • Compatible with all skin types (Fitzpatrick I-VI)
  • Light peeling effect
  • Rejuvenates the skin
  • Can be used all year round
  • Beneficial for acne patients

3. What results can I expect after using Cosmelan®?

In 99% of the cases, the disappearance of the blemishes improves by 95%...

ONE WEEK after starting the Cosmelan® Depigmentation treatment, a noticeable significant improvement of the skin is observed! The reduction of the treated blemish is detected and the appearance of new luminous and rejuvenated skin is present.

At the end of the Cosmelan® Depigmentation treatment, the blemishes start to disappear altogether, so that, although the patient may be able to “locate” the place where the spot was, the truth is that the pigmentation will have disappeared and nobody will be able to see it just by looking at it.

4. What active ingredients are in Cosmelan®?

Cosmelan® 1 - Cream (10g)
Azelaic Acid, Kojic Acid, Phytic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Arbutine, Titanium Dioxide

Cosmelan® 2 – Maintenance Cream (30g)
Titanium Dioxide, Kojic Acid, Phytic Acid, Ascorbic Acid

5. How does the Cosmelan process work?

The process consists of two parts: First stage is applied in your physician’s office. The aesthetic specialist will determine what skin type you have. She will then cleanse your face and degrease the area to be treated.

Immediately following the degreasing step, Cosmelan® 1 , which is a yellow mustard mask, will be applied. The mask will be left on for a total of 4-8 hours depending on your skin type. You will go home with the mask on.

After the action time has elapsed, you will remove the mask with water and a neutral cleanser. Immediately following the cleansing of the face, you will apply the Hydra-vital factor K cream.

Second stage is the Home Maintenance: It consists of the daily application and continual use of the Cosmelan 2 cream. The cream is applied three times a day the first week, twice a day the second week, and once a day the third week forward.

6. How do I use Cosmelan® at home?

The Cosmelan® Depigmentation treatment initiated at the medical office must be continued at home, on a daily basis, according to the guidelines indicated.

Clean Face completely, every time Cosmelan 2 is applied.

Apply a thin layer of Cosmelan 2 all over face with a light, circular motion.

Apply Hydra-vital factor K to the face and neck with a light, circular motion 15 minutes after applying Cosmelan 2. Use daily.

7. What should I expect in my first day and second day after the Cosmelan® mask?
During the first two days of the treatment, the skin may turn red. If the skin is very sensitive, the patient may experience an itching sensation. Slight burning and tightening of the skin is also expected, especially during the first 24 to 48 hours after starting the treatment.

To relieve these problems, it is advisable to apply the Hydra-vital factor K whenever necessary.

8. What should I expect in my Third and fourth day?

After the third or fourth day, the skin appears healthy and luminous and the marks begin to fade.
9. Are there any side effects to the treatment?

Reddening of the Skin
The reddening that occurs on the face after applying the Cosmelan® 1 treatment is similar to the effects of day-long exposure to the sun in the snow without protection. (Intense reddening in skin types I and II and practically non-existent in skin types V and VI.)

Flaking
Flaking may occur on all skin types (and more intensely in skin types I and II) between the second and third day. In this case, it is advisable to apply the Hydra-vital factor K cream, repeating this every two hours on the day when the flaking is most intense.

You will be instructed to use your moisturizer and a daily sunblock SPF 30 or greater. During any periods of prolonged sun exposure you will be instructed to wear a hat and your sunblock.

10. Can I stop the Cosmelan® treatment at any given time?

No, the treatment must not be interrupted under any circumstances, during the whole time prescribed.
11. Can I combine the Cosmelan® Treatment with other treatments?
It is completely forbidden to combine the Cosmelan® Depigmentation treatment with other depigmentation treatments, as the appearance of undesired effects cannot be guaranteed. Any other skin or facial treatments should be discussed with the clinical specialist.

12. Do I need to discontinue my everyday activities in order to use Cosmelan®?

No, Cosmelan® is a very versatile product that can be incorporated into individual lifestyles.

13. Can Cosmelan® be applied in other parts of the body?

Yes, even though the protocol is recommended for the face, it may be used in the chest area and sometimes on the back of the hands.

14. Can I use Cosmelan® during the summer?

Yes, Cosmelan® can be used all year round, with special precautions with sun exposure.

15. Can the blemishes return if I stop using Cosmelan? In order to avoid blemishes from retuning, it is necessary to be disciplined with the Cosmelan regimen. On the days you do not follow the Cosmelan protocol, you should at least use a sun block of SPF 40+. It is also advisable to apply Cosmelan 2 at night on the days you had more sun exposure.
